Our Kunisaki and Yufuin Walk includes daily haiku workshops and commentary from our Walk Japan guide who will give a cultural and historic introduction to Kunisaki Peninsula. Exploring one of Japan’s most beautiful yet least known areas, we end our walk in nearby Yufuin, one of Japan’s elegant onsen thermal hot spring resorts. Our route follows in the footsteps of monks who have walked the mountains of the peninsula for over 1,200 years. We will follow ancient trails through sleepy hamlets and verdant forests, along craggy ridges towering over the myriad surrounding valleys. En route we pass many stone Buddha statues, large and small, and sometimes caves where monks once found shelter and meditated. You will be immersed in Japanese culture of the past and present, enjoy Japanese cooking at its best, luxuriate in hot springs and have the opportunity to capture the experience in your own haiku poems or sketches. For artists and writers and anyone interested in exploring a haiku way of life during Sakura (cherry blossom time) Limited singles, small group (max 12). Early bird price $4650 AUD.
